I Kurt Johannessen sine arbeid er nærvær i situasjonen fundamentalt. Resten prøver han å halde så ope som mogeleg, ikkje låse vala for tidleg. Dette er utgangspunktet. Samstundes er han oppteken av å finne situasjonar som kan tilføre kvaliteter han ikkje har erfart tidlegare. Ofte minimaliserar Kurt Johannessen ned til eitt bilde og skapar mikroskopiske variasjonar innafor denne ramma. Andre gonger er situasjonen meir kompleks, men likevel innafor eit poetisk minimalistisk formspråk. Han arbeidar hovudsakeleg med performance, installasjon og bøker. Ofte er arbeida stadspesifikke.
Kurt Johannessen (f.1960) arbeider med performance, bøker, video, teikning, grafikk og installasjon. Han har vist sine performancer i Europa, Asia og Amerika sidan tidleg på 80-talet. har hatt utstillingar fleire steder i Noreg, blant anna Bergen Kunstmuseum og Kunstnernes Hus (2007) og i Kunstnerforbundet (2016). Han gir ut artists books på eige forlag. Bøkene er tekstrelatert eller har visuelle kvalitetar. Tekstarbeida er ofte korte visuelle, poetiske, og til tider humoristiske fortellingar. Han har produsert over 120 bøker. Sidan 2013 har mange av hans bøker (Om-noko) vært grunnlag for en serie performanceforedrag. Desse bøkene ligg i kryssingspunktet mellom filosofi, bildekunst, poesi og vitskap. I 2019 produserte han utstillinga Om lag 100 bøker – 1984-2019 som vart vist i Kunstbanken, og som også omfatta trykk, teikningar, foto, objekt og tekstarbeid.

In Kurt Johannessen’s work, being present in the situation is fundamental. The rest he tries to keep as open as possible, so as not to close the options too early. This is the starting point. At the same time, he is preoccupied with finding situations that can add qualities he has not experienced before. Kurt Johannessen often minimizes down to one image and creates microscopic variations within this frame. Other times the situation is more complex, but still within a poetic, minimalist idiom. He mainly works with performance, installation and books, and his artwork is often site-specific.
Kurt Johannessen (b.1960) works with performance, books, video, drawing, graphics and installation. He has shown his performances in Europe, Asia and America since the early 80s and has had exhibitions in several places in Norway, including Bergen Art Museum and Kunstnernes Hus (2007) and in the Artists’ Association (2016). Johannessen publishes artists’ books through his own publishing house. The books are text-related or have visual qualities, and they often consist of short visual, poetic, and sometimes humorous stories. He has produced over 120 books and since 2013, many of his books (Om-noko) have formed the basis for a series of performance lectures. These books can be placed at the intersection between philosophy, visual arts, poetry and science. In 2019, he produced the exhibition About 100 books – 1984-2019, which was shown in Kunstbanken, and which also included prints, drawings, photographs, objects and text work.
