Som en del av Narracje-festivalen i Gdańsk i 2019 presenterte Maya Gordon en stor gjenstand – en 3,5 meter høy oppblåsbar tekanne – som en påminnelse om en av de magiske gjenstandene som ble funnet i skapet i familiens hjem. Husket fra barndommen og gjenskapt av kunstneren, forsterker denne skatten verdien av minner. Gordon framstiller seg selv både som ei jente som gjør dansetrinn, og som en moden kvinne, dansende med samme energi som ei lita jente. Dansen, som er en metafor for livet, tar form av en kontinuerlig og kreativ prosess.
Maya Gordons gigantiske tekanne vil være omdreiningspunktet for performancen, der kunstneren vil snakke med Tadeusz Woleński, en polsk intellektuell som bor i Tel Aviv og Athen. Barndomshistorier vil være minner knyttet til gjenstander og nære mennesker fra den tiden. Mayas historie begynner i Polen, hvorfra hun dro for tvungen emigrasjon til Jerusalem. Etter å ha studert kunst i Israel, valgte hun Amsterdam som sin faste bolig. Hun savner Polen og Israel. I begge disse landene prøver hun å være det flere ganger i året. Maya Gordon (f. 1947) arbeider med mange teknikker, som tegning, maleri, collage og installasjon. Hun ble uteksaminert fra Bezalel School of Fine Arts and Crafts i Jerusalem, og har utdanning ved Atelier 63 i Haarlem og Jan van Eyck Academy i Maastricht.

In 2019, as part of the Narracje Festival in Gdańsk, Maya Gordon presented a large object – an inflatable teapot 3.5 m tall – which is a reminder of one of the magical objects found in a cupboard in her family’s home. Remembered from childhood and recreated by the artist, the treasure emphasizes the richness of memories. Gordon portrays herself as a girl performing dance steps, and as a mature woman dancing with the same energy as a little girl. Dance, which is a metaphor for life, takes the form of a continuous and creative process.
Maya Gordon’s gigantic teapot will be the focal point of the performance, where the artist will speak with Tadeusz Woleński, a Polish intellectual living in Tel Aviv and Athens. Childhood stories will be memories linked to objects and significant people from that time. Maya’s story begins in Poland, from which she left due to compulsory emigration to Jerusalem. After studying art in Israel, she chose Amsterdam as her permanent residence. She misses both Poland and Israel and tries to visit both countries several times a year. Memories is an important part of her life and work.
Maya Gordon (b. 1947) is an artist who makes us of a wide range of artistic techniques like drawing, painting, collage and installation. She graduated from the Bezalel School of Fine Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem, and has studied at Atelier 63 in Haarlem and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
She has been living and working in Amsterdam since 1975.
